Food-grade 304 and food-grade 316 stainless steel are the most common when purchasing stainless steel tableware. However, stainless steel is not limited to 304 and 316. There are also a large number of cheap "2-series stainless steel tableware" on the market, such as 201 and 202. But there are no 304, 316, 201, 202 in our country's mandatory standards, and there is no concept of "food grade". These stainless steel codes themselves are American standards, and "food grade" is only described by the merchants themselves.

According to my country's mandatory national standard GB4806.9-2016 "National Food Safety Standard Metal Materials and Products for Food Contact", as long as it is a stainless steel product that meets this national standard, it can be used for food contact. To put it simply: as long as you buy stainless steel tableware, the implementation standard is GB4806.9-2016, which is stainless steel that can be used for food contact.

Cheap 2-series stainless steel (201, 202, etc.), compared with 3-series stainless steel (304, 316, etc.), has one more metal element, manganese, which is inferior to 3-series stainless steel in terms of corrosion resistance. When acidic food (such as vinegar) is used for a long time , the risk of heavy metal precipitation is more likely to occur. But pay attention to my wording "more likely", because it has something to do with the individual products you buy and the specific use environment. Heavy metal precipitation does not necessarily occur, and even a trace amount of heavy metal precipitation is not necessarily harmful to the human body.

You may have heard of "stainless steel material detection solution", the most common ones are manganese detection solution (to identify 2-series and 3-series stainless steel) and molybdenum detection solution (to identify 304 and 316).

For example, if you drop a drop of manganese detection solution on stainless steel, it will be series 2 if it turns red, and series 3 if it does not turn red. Although it is very convenient to operate, the change of color does not mean the real situation. For example, some stainless steel surfaces will be coated, so they cannot be detected. And this kind of identification can only mean that the stainless steel contains certain metal elements, which is meaningless to the safety of food. Therefore, it is meaningless to use the detection solution to detect the type of stainless steel. For ordinary consumers, it is more important to choose stainless steel tableware that meets the national standard "GB4806.9-2016", and not to buy stainless steel tableware of miscellaneous brands or no brands.

Of course, from a personal suggestion point of view, I still suggest that you try to choose 304 stainless steel tableware. Most of the 2-series stainless steel are low-end products. The thickness of stainless steel is very thin, easy to deform and not durable, and the metal texture is not good. Considering that stainless steel tableware is not a consumable product, it is worth buying better ones.

Choose stainless steel tableware of 304 or 316, and choose safe heat-resistant materials such as PP food-grade materials, food-grade silica gel or Jiatianfu tableware (including inorganic powder + pp food-grade and polymer materials) for the parts that come into contact with food.
